Do Steven Yeun’s Film Roles Confirm Glenn’s Death?

Actor Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, has been accepting roles in multiple feature films. Does this mean his character is the one that died at the end of the Season 6 finale?

We may not have all appreciated that ending The Walking Dead gave us at the end of Season 6, but one thing is for sure— it’s got everybody talking.

From Daryl to Maggie to Eugene to Glenn, there are theories out there for every single character in Negan’s line-up to be the one revealed to have “taken it like a champ”. But our discussions may be cut short several months ahead of the Season 7 premiere, if recent casting news involving Steven Yeun means anything.

Yeun, who plays Glenn on the series, has been taking on various film roles, leaving fans to question why his schedule is suddenly so open. In March, Yeun was announced to appear in the Joe Lynch action flick Mayhem, an action thriller that doesn’t sound too different from The Walking Dead in the sense that it’s about an office worker trapped in a quarantined building with co-workers infected with an unknown plague that makes them violent.

One film role probably wouldn’t mean too much, as Lauren Cohan starring in The Boy didn’t spell any bad news for Maggie. But now that THR has reported Yeun’s casting in another feature film, fans are starting to worry about Glenn.

Yeun will be appearing in a Bong Joon Ho-helmed flick called Okja, which will also feature Tilda Swinton and Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie tells the story of a young girl who sets out on a rescue mission for a genetically-modified, supersized pig. Yeun’s role in the story wasn’t revealed at the time of the article’s publication.

I’ll admit that this isn’t necessarily a good sign for the fate of Glenn. However, don’t rage-quit the show just yet if you’re a big Glenn fan. Likewise, this also doesn’t automatically mean that Glenn is the one that died, either.

The Walking Dead doesn’t film year-round, and we also know how the show sometimes likes to go several episodes at a time without showing certain characters. They even did it to Andrew Lincoln in the back half of Season 4, despite him playing the main protagonist on the show.

What I’m saying is that these actors can indeed find the time to work on other projects. While Yeun has a starring role in Mayhem (as Cohan did with The Boy), his level of involvement wasn’t revealed for Okja. For all we know, he could be playing a minor role that will only take him a few weekends to finish.
