The Walking Dead: AMC reveals new photos from upcoming episodes
The Walking Dead returns on Feb.10 with the second half of season nine, and AMC is preparing fans with a handful of first-look photographs.
This season of AMC’s hit series has taken about as much of a fresh step forward as any series in its ninth year possibly can. With the big war against the Saviors *mostly* wrapping up last season (the aftermath was still felt in early Season 9 episodes), and the show-runners boldly moving away from Carl Grimes, nobody really knew what kind of show The Walking Dead would be when it returned last Fall.
That curiosity (or fear) was only strengthened by the announcement that Andrew Lincoln, who had been the face of the series since it began in 2010, would be departing the show at some point in the first half of the season. Where would the series land without Rick Grimes at its core?
Surprisingly, in a much better place.

While it’s tough not to miss the physical presence of Rick, The Walking Dead has capably managed without him. For the first time in years, things feel fresh and uncertain. It’s the same world, sure, but it’s been rearranged like a living room suit. We may eventually tire of the setup, but for now, it feels exciting.
Much of this stems from the six-year time jump that immediately followed Rick’s exit. The loss of Rick — who everyone presumes dead — has left the characters in a state of flux.
New leaders have stepped up to varying degrees of success, relationships have been tested or broken entirely, and new threats — perhaps the most dangerous that the survivors have encountered throughout the show’s nine-year run — are prepared to make life miserable, which was evidenced by the closing moments and major character death in the mid-season finale.
Ahead of the mid-season premiere on Feb. 10, AMC has given us a look at characters – both old and new – as they continue growing accustomed to a changing world. Photographs via Deadline:
