"A mountain lion (Felis concolor), also known as a puma, is a stealthy visitor to the deserts. They are revered as the phantoms of the desert. Phantoms for while their tracks and remains of kills are visible, they are rarely if ever seen by humans or their prey. They will prefer to spend the days in areas of thick vegetation before striking out at night to thrash into a mule deer, quickly gashing its throat for the kill. The lion will eat its due, carefully burying the remaining carcass and its precious meat with vegetation to return for several days to satiate itself.
