FearFest is in full swing, Freeform has kicked off its "31 Days of Halloween" marathon, Netflix debuted this year's Netflix & Chills, and Hulu has its own epic "Huluween" event underway. It's an incredible time to be a horror fan and an even better time to just be a general Halloween lover!

Hulu always has a stacked roster of horror movies, but the streamer goes all out for the fall season. Currently, "Huluween" has multiple new premieres coming up with movies like Hold Your Breath, Mr. Crocket, and Carved, plus new episodes of American Horror Stories. You can also stream episodes of the currently airing horror drama series Grotesquerie on Hulu the day after they air on FX.

Overall, it's a really great time to be a Hulu subscriber, and even better if you've got the Disney+ bundle as Disney+ has tons of family-friendly Halloween movies.

Hold Your Breath (2024)

Sarah Paulson leads this new horror movie just released on October 3. In it, she plays a single mother in 1930s Oklahoma trying to protect her daughter from a dust storm she's convinced is harboring an evil entity. Hold Your Breath leans more into psychological thriller territory than straight horror, but it's always worth watching Paulson's projects because you know she always delivers. She also stars in another Hulu horror film currently streaming, Run.

Mr. Crocket (2024)

Set in 1993, Mr. Crocket is both the name of the film and the in-universe antagonist who hosts a children's show with a dark twist. Mr. Crocket likes to channel his inner Samara from The Ring and pop out of the television set and kidnap children after brutally murdering their parents. In one such case, the mother is forced to watch helplessly as her son is kidnapped, and she becomes determined to save him no matter what. Mr. Crocket is a new movie this year for "Huluween" and will start streaming on October 11.

Carved (2024)

This campy flick features a group of teenagers trapped overnight in a historical reenactment and forced to fend for themselves when a vengeful and sentient pumpkin starts attacking. Another new "Huluween" film, Carved will begin streaming on October 21.

Cobweb (2023)

Cobweb was a pleasant surprise from last year that holds up pretty well and is surprisingly cozy for a horror movie. Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of scares, but it is a distinctly Halloween movie with all the ambiance one would expect. It's ideal for getting into the spooky spirit. The story centers on a young boy who starts hearing a mysterious tapping on the walls of his home in the middle of the night. But his parents, played by Antony Starr and Lizzy Caplan, claim not to hear anything, leading their son to think they must be hiding a terrible secret.

The First Omen (2024)

Still a front-runner for one of my favorite movies of this year, The First Omen is a fantastic prequel film to The Omen and a surprisingly brutal mainstream horror flick led by a stellar Nell Tiger Free. This story revolves around a young American woman who moves to Rome to begin her life in the service of God, and then becomes wrapped up in a sinister plot to bring about the birth of the Antichrist.

The Boogeyman (2023)

Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher is quickly becoming one to watch and a rising scream queen with films like this one and the upcoming titles Heretic and Companion. The Boogeyman is based on a short story by Stephen King and follows a family grieving the loss of their mother. Their father (Chris Messina) is a therapist who works from home. One day, a deeply disturbed patient of his arrives for an appointment and leaves behind an entity that feasts on the suffering of others.

American Horror Stories

While American Horror Stories is not a movie, you could almost think of each film as a standalone film in some ways since it is an anthology series where every episode depicts a new story with a different cast. A spinoff of the long-running parent series American Horror Story, there are five new episodes of this show coming out later this month. So now is the perfect time to catch up!

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Parents looking for something they can enjoy alongside their kids can stream this beloved Tim Burton film. It's great timing considering another popular Burton film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, will come to PVOD on October 8! In Edward Scissorhands, we follow an animated human being named Edward who has scissor blades for hands because the scientist who constructed him died before he could finish what he started.

Alien (1979)

Alien has been back in the conversation frequently lately with the recent acclaim and box office success generated by Alien: Romulus and the new teaser for the upcoming FX series Alien: Earth, so now feels like the optimal moment to return to Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi classic. Hulu is currently streaming several films in the franchise and Alien: Romulus will hit PVOD on October 15.

Us (2019)

I don't know if it's controversial to say this, but while I've loved all of Jordan Peele's films so far, Us stands out as a personal favorite thanks to its perfect execution of uncanny horror and powerhouse performance from star Lupita Nyong'o. As a child, Adelaide experienced something traumatic during a vacation. As an adult, she returns to the same place with her family, including her husband and two children. There, she becomes increasingly terrified of something bad happening yet again, and her worst fears come true when four strangers who look identical to her family appear at the vacation home.

Censor (2021)

I will jump at any opportunity to promote Prano Bailey-Bond's 2021 movie about a British film screener with a reputation for being the strictest "censor" around. Set during the height of the 1980s video nasty era, we follow Enid (Niamh Algar) as she goes through the motions of viewing horror films and deciding what content needs to be cut. Then she views a strange low-budget horror with an actress who looks strikingly similar to her missing sister Alice and falls down a seriously twisted rabbit hole.
