We're almost halfway through 2025 and we've already been treated to a bunch of fantastic new horror movies, like The Monkey, Companion, and Sinners, with many more to come. May alone will see the releases of highly-anticipated titles like Final Destination: Bloodlines, Bring Her Back, and Fear Street: Prom Queen. This summer is also packed with horror movies, so there's definitely no shortage on the horizon.

But among the dozens that are still to come this year, there are six horror films that we are most eager to see. Most of them are original stories and a few are from teams behind previously acclaimed films like Barbarian and Talk to Me. Below, we've compiled a list of the six upcoming horror movies with the most hype right now. Expectations for these are sky high.

Bring Her Back

  • In theaters, May 29

After the success of their terrifying A24 movie Talk to Me, we've all been waiting with bated breath to see what Australian filmmaker Danny and Michael Philippou do next. We'll finally have an answer to that question soon when their new movie Bring Her Back releases in theaters.

A24 is also distributing this one, which is a good sign that it's going to be equally as scary as Talk to Me, if not more. The initial teaser and trailer are very vague on plot details, which is often the best way to experience horror movies. But the story centers on a pair of siblings who move in with a foster mother after their own mother passes away. Upon arriving at their foster home, they witness their new parent performing a horrific ritual.

Weapons

  • In theaters, August 8

Weapons has become perhaps my number one most anticipated horror movie of the year next to Bring Her Back. Similar to the A24 film, Weapons is another follow-up from a director who made a huge splash with his debut horror film, in this case, Zach Cregger, best known for Barbarian.

New Line Cinema has been hitting the marketing for this movie out of the park with its eerie teasers, poster, and a trailer that gives just enough away to haunt viewers and entice us to the theater. The premise revolves around one night when all the children from Ms. Gandy's (Julia Garner) classroom mysteriously get up in the middle of the night at exactly 2:17 a.m. and walk outside into the dark, never to return.

28 Years Later

  • In theaters, June 20

28 Days Later is one of the best viral horror movies ever made and decades later we're getting another follow up. The initial trailer for 28 Years Later was so popular that it broke records, becoming one of the most-viewed horror trailers of all time, largely due to the incredible editing employed and the eerie utilization of Rudyard Kipling's poem, "Boots," in a harrowing recitation.

The trailer perfectly sets up the dire stakes of this new entry into the series, which will kick off a brand new trilogy and sees the return of original writing and directing team Alex Garland and Danny Boyle.

Him

  • In theaters, September 19

Justin Tipping makes his horror movie debut with Him, a sports horror film produced by Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions banner. Tyriq Withers, who also stars in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, plays a promising and ambitious football player invited to train with a legendary quarterback (Marlon Wayans) at a private compound.

With his new protégé in tow, the quarterback takes the young athlete into his world of power and his unrelenting pursuit of excellence at the expense of all else. Little else is known about Him at this time, but I expect we'll get an official trailer this summer. Peele's involvement as a producer is enough to pique plenty of interest.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

  • In theaters, May 16

Final Destination: Bloodlines might not carry the same level of prestige as some of the other horror films on this list, but that doesn't make me any less excited for it. The Final Destination franchise is one of my personal favorite horror franchises and I've been wanting a new movie for years. I'm beyond excited that we're finally getting it.

Ranking top 5 Final Destination death scenes

Death returns to haunt a new crop of characters and this time it seems like we're going back to the very beginning of the story and learning what set off the chain reaction that would lead to the rest of the movies and their subsequent premonitions and deaths. Early teasers and promotional material for Bloodlines has teased plenty of wild over-the-top death scenes and I have no doubt this will be a real crowd-pleaser.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

  • In theaters, July 18

From the director and co-writer of Do Revenge, Jenn Katyin Robinson, comes a legacy sequel to the popular and iconic 1997 slasher. I Know What You Did Last Summer is the fourth movie in the series, following up from the 1999 sequel. Like the previous films, this one revolves around a group of friends with a dark secret between them. This secret comes back to bite when a hook-handed fisherman starts brutally murdering people one by one.

The killer will be a lot more violent this time around, as the trailer teases more bloodshed already than in the 1997 movie. And there will be plenty of callbacks to the original, including the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Julie James and Ray Bronson. Even Sarah Michelle Gellar gets a little shoutout in the trailer as we're shown a photo of Helen set up at her headstone.
