This week, Netflix confirmed the release date for Fear Street: Prom Queen and we got new trailers for Screamboat, Hulu horror film Control Freak, the psychological thriller The Assessment starring Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen, and much more. Netflix shares new Fear Street: Prom Queen teaser, posters, and release date
The latest R.L. Stine adaptation will be released on May 23, exclusively on Netflix. The streaming service also a shared a suitably creepy teaser this week to debut the date and give us our first look at the prom queen candidates who will be tormented and killed off by an ominous red coat-wearing slasher.
On Thursday, Netflix also shared two new retro-style posters inspired by the book cover for Stine's novel on which the film is based. Learn more about Fear Street: Prom Queen here.

Netflix adapting horror podcast Impact Winter
Deadline reports that Netflix has purchased the rights to the Audible Originals podcast Impact Winter. It will be developed into a series by creator Travis Beacham (Carnival Row) with Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games) directing.
For those unfamiliar with the series, it has shades of 30 Days of Night, featuring a world plunged into an apocalypse after a comet strikes the earth, blocking out the sun and pitting humans against vampires.
Steven Soderbergh's new supernatural thriller Presence comes to digital
If you missed out on seeing Steven Soderbergh's compelling new paranormal thriller Presence—which is shot in continuous long takes and filmed from the perspective of the entity—you can now check out the movie at home as it arrived on PVOD earlier this week. Currently it costs $19.99 to rent the film and $24.99 to buy it. Find out more about the upcoming Presence physical release.
Trailer for psychological thriller The Assessment starring Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen
Elizabeth Olsen, Himesh Patel, and Elizabeth Olsen star in this chilling new dystopian thriller. Set in the future where resources are tightly controlled and couples must undergo rigorous testing to be allowed to procreate, Olsen and Patel play a couple subjected to the "assessment" in their journey to have children. Vikander plays the cold assessor responsible for assigning the various challenges.
Jersey Shore star Jenni 'JWoww' Farley to direct second horror film
After her found-footage movie Devon from last year, Jersey Shore's Jenni 'JWoww' Farley is back with another horror film, this one a psychological thriller starring Katie Cassidy. Nanny Cam is about a new mother who must protect her daughter from what she believes is a demon hunting her. Farley says the movie is inspired by her own experiences as a new mother and her upbringing. Learn more about Nanny Cam.
Jessica Lange makes it clear she's not coming back to American Horror Story
At the premiere of her latest movie in Ireland, Jessica Lange was asked about a potential American Horror Story return. Needless to say, that ship has sailed. The actress was very clear that she has no interest in going back, not even if they ask her to for the final season. Her exact words were, "Oh, Christ no." More details on Lange's comments.
David Howard Thornton is a killer Mickey Mouse in official Screamboat trailer
With Steamboat Willie in the public domain, we've been seeing a lot of these Mickey Mouse horror movies, but one of the most anticipated is Screamboat, which stars Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton as the mutant mouse.
The new trailer teases what fans can expect from this over-the-top gore fest. IndieWire debuted it earlier this week, including a quote from Thornton about the audience reaction. “I’ve been to two of the screenings so far, and the audience reactions have been fantastic. They’ve really gotten what we’re trying to do. I like to call it ‘splat-stick’ comedy because it’s just an absurd concept when you think about it. I mean, it’s a mutant mouse going around on a boat killing people.”
In theaters for a limited time starting on April 2.
The Boys to stage a Supernatural reunion
Sam and Dean Winchester will reunite in the upcoming final season of Amazon's dark superhero series The Boys. Jensen Ackles will be back to play Soldier Boy and Jared Padalecki will join the cast in an unknown role. The boys will also be joined by Misha Collins, who played the Winchesters' loyal angel ally Castiel on Supernatural.
The Boys creator Eric Kripke also created Supernatural and has always wanted to get more of The CW show's cast on his Amazon show. Even Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played John Winchester, previously guest starred on The Boys.
Krysten Ritter lands epic guest-starring role on Dexter: Resurrection
Actress Krysten Ritter is the latest to join the cast of the upcoming Dexter spinoff series Dexter: Resurrection, a continuation of Dexter: New Blood. According to the report, Ritter is playing a sommelier with a dark side: she's a serial killer. Resurrection is currently filming in New York and expected to premiere later this year on Paramount+ with Showtime. More on Ritter's guest role.
Kelly Marie Tran fights a parasitic demon in Control Freak trailer
Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran leads this upcoming Hulu Original horror movie about a motivational speaker plagued by a freaky parasitic demon from her homeland. The trailer for the film was released this week ahead of the film's March 13 release date. In it, we see that Tran's character Valerie starts experiencing itchiness and other strange phenomena as the parasite rears its ugly (insect-like) head. Continue reading.
Patrick Wilson joins the cast of Apple TV+ series Cape Fear
The Conjuring and Insidious star Patrick Wilson has joined the cast of the upcoming Apple TV+ series Cape Fear, a remake of the 1991 film directed by Martin Scorsese.
Amy Adams and Javier Bardem will also star in the series with Adams playing the lead character Anna Bowden and Bardem playing the villainous killer Max Cady. Cape Fear revolves around a pair of married attorneys, Anna and Tom Bowden, who must contend with Cady getting out of prison. It seems likely that Wilson will be playing Tom.
Trailer for Nicole Kidman's new thriller film Holland
Nicole Kidman is teaming up with Fresh director Mimi Cave for a new psychological thriller coming to Amazon Prime Video in March. Set in the quaint Dutch town of Holland, Michigan, Kidman plays a homemaker named Nancy Vandergroot who suspects that her husband is hiding a dark secret. Holland starts streaming on March 27.
